ADVICE
Surely it took a lot of hard work to get to this level, what motivated you to keep working hard?
There were many things that helped keep me motivated. The main one was myself. I knew that playing professional soccer was what I wanted to do and I knew that what it took to make it was going to be difficult but I was prepared and determined to do it so I made sure I stayed focused on the goal. I also had support from my college coach who made sure I was keeping up on my workouts and training and taking days off.
When it got hard, or you didn’t make the cut what did you do? What advice could you give kids about working hard and overcoming moments like this?
I made sure that I kept an open mind to everything. I knew that there was going to be times that I was not going to make it, so this just made me more motivated to try harder and make a different team. I actually got cut right before preseason with another WPS team before I came here, so I trained harder and believed in myself and then made it for Sky Blue. As long as you believe in yourself, stay motivated, and have a good support system, then you can overcome obstacles and succeed elsewhere.
When going through school and playing soccer at the same time, how did you fit all the pieces together (soccer, school, social life)
I really didn’t have a problem balancing social life, school and soccer. I made sure I took advantage of time, so when I had free time I would do work ahead of time so when I would have social time, I wouldn’t be worried about studying or doing work. Soccer you have a set time for practices/weights/meetings, as well as a set time for classes, so I just had a routine for when to study or nap. As long as you can manage your time and stay organized, then you can balance it all out.
What advice would you give to a young girl who dreams of playing in WPS one day?
Always believe in yourself. If this is something you really want to do then never give up because it can work out. I came from a small school and went through an open tryout process to make it here and it was extremely difficult, but I was determined to get here and do whatever it takes. Having this attitude, a good work ethic, and lots of ball work, then it will help you get you close to your dream.
